How to Play Love me Tender
Have you tried any of my exclusively formatted Instant Play Songs?
If you haven’t, then I encourage you to try one. These songs are designed to allow you to play a song without knowing how to read music. They are for “fun”, but they also serve a purpose toward learning how to read music. The instant play songs teach you how to move around the piano by changing positions and by playing with both hands. I invite you to try my most popular Instant Play Song, Love Me Tender:

If you have already learned this, please feel free to post your comments for others to enjoy, and if you have any questions, I would be happy to answer them here as well. ~smile~

I follow your instructions on how to play love me tender
but do not understand and can’t play by the instructions. I know how to play this song by reading the music. You gave us the sheet music a while back. Am I weird or
should I be able to do both?
February 11th, 2009 at 3:46 pm
Hi Addie,
The Instant Play instructions are designed for people who cannot read music. I would actually be confusing for someone who can already read music.
If you have the sheet music, then that’s what you should be using, not the Instant Play version.
No, you are not weird! ~smile~

Hello Lisa,
Thanks very much for such a clear explanation of this song. I just had like 20 minutes practising it and it sounds really good. I started playing the piano a month ago I think.
I studied your free lessons and I have studied by my own the mayor, minor, diminished and augmented chords and I am glad to be able to play a new song.

Hi Lisa,
First, we wish you, your family and all your students a Happy Valentine’s Day! This is Tempie here.
I’m excited because, I plan to play ‘Love Me Tender’ for my husband Albert for Valentine’s Day! He is my inspiration and makes everyday a Valentine day for me. It is he that has the true musical passion and has been teachng me. We are both published authors, poets, musicians, singers, etc. He is way ahead of me musically but I’m beginning to have a passion and am learning slowly. When I just heard Mike on the recording mention his daugther is in Memphis and he is wearing his Memphis hat, it sparked me as well.
I was born in Memphis in the USA and now live in England with my husband, Albert. Also, I have met Elvis Presley in Memphis and am a devoted fan and it would just warm my heart to be able to even attempt to play a simple version of , ‘Love Me Tender!’
Thank you for providing free lessons, so beginners like me can learn. Keep up your great work.
Sincerely,
Albert and Tempie

Hi, Lisa!
Despite my swollen right pinky from a bike accident, I got to play Love Me Tender, one of my old favorites, right off the bat.
My wife found me on the piano yesterday afternoon. Some surprise!
I am enjoying the lessons and learning so much!
BTW, I’m 59 with no formal piano lessons. I learned to play the sax on my own and now the piano, with your help.
Thanks a lot!

Now if I could just strenghthen my left hand a little more. I know I’ll never be a Billy Joel or Elton John but your lessons have been fun & most helpful. Much Appreciation!

Dear Lisa,
Thank you for sending me my free gift, Love Me Tender instant play song. I didn’t think it was going to work, but I tried it and its amazing! I can’t wait to play it for my sweetie! I am just floored at how easy it was to learn.
I started with the hands position and then listened to the audio of Mr. Gross. I followed it and it sounded great. Then I listened to your instructions and wrote down the fingers’ numbers and tried that, that worked even better, learned the words to the song and now I am playing it and practicing. I did try to follow the sheet music, but I became confused when the notes drop at the bottom of the staff, I still dont understand that bit, and I didn’t do the left hand, you know I am having a problem, but this second attempt at the left hand is getting a little better, hitting the same notes on the right, and singing along with that hand. Needs more practice I suppose. I am so thrilled! My sweetie will be astounded. I am adding “Love Me Tender” to a private concert on Valentines Day!

Hi Lisa ;
Thank you so much for this beautiful lesson , I really enjoyed this .
I have no piano but I have a small keyboard with only 32 keys ! and for playing this melody I had to use other octaves , ( I mean right side octaves for both hands !)
I recorded that and sent to your email address and also uploaded to this link :

Please tell me your opionions about that.

Farshad,
Your recording was beautifully done, I am impressed with the fluency and timing you achieved in such a short time. Wow!
There is one note that sounds like it needs to be corrected. It is the #4 on the second
page (when you are in F position) that did not sound correct. Your #4 finger should be playing
a black note. Look at the keyboard diagram on the Instant Play sheet for F position
to see what I am talking about.
Other than that, it was a beautiful performance!

That was result of your wonderful explanation and that was really amazing for me how you could find that I have played one wrong note !
I understood and corrected my mistake thanks to your excellent clarification.
Now I can play a beautiful and popular melody and I am very excited .
and another question : Did you recieve my email to teacher@learnpianoonline.com ?
Can I send my emails to this address ?
Thank you so much

Dear Lisa,
Hi, thank you very much for the song. I played it on a friend’s piano and it felt so good.
I’d like to ask you something, i hope it is not a stupid question. I have been wanting to learn the piano for years, but my job requires me to travel overseas pretty often, and because of this i lose practice time and i am unable to keep to a proper class schedule. When i found out about your online lessons, i was ecstatic.
I am very eager to start learning again full-time but i’d like to buy a “portable-piano” if there is such a thing. or could you recommend something similar?
Appreciate your advice very much.
