Where's Lisa?

Requests for current or contemporary songs.

I am sure you have already noticed that piano lesson curriculum is full of traditional songs, classical songs and they all seem to be offering the same list of songs.  Why is this and why aren’t there more current songs included?

The answer to that is that copyright laws protect current songs.  Songs that are newer than 120 years older are actually still under copyright laws.  The songs you see in most curriculum is over 120 years old, which are called “public domain” songs.  These are the songs you will learn.  However, as you see most songs that are loved throughout the world fall into this 120 year old catagory! ~smile~

The good news is this… when you learn to read music using these beautifully written 120 year old favorites, you will be able to use your new reading skills to read and play any song of your choice outside of the curriculum.  Purchasing more current songs through sheet music stores online is not very expensive, and going shopping for new music is like going to a candy store!

So, I recommend that you learn to read music, play the classics, and then go shopping for more!

    Lisa,
What should I look for when purchasing sheet music? Should I limit my choices to songs that look just like the ones in the lessons? Should I be able to play all the music called “Easy Piano” when I finish Lesson 12? I am so anxious to learn some of the songs I love, and would like to use them to practice. There are “easy” versions of those songs, like “All I Ask of You’ and “Memory” and such. Will I frustrate myself if I try some of those pieces now, in Lesson 6??

My Testimony is that I always play piano by ear, I am
not be able to read music. I begin to take your
piano lessons, My major struggle in music was
understand both cleft and Play with both Hands
Now is possible, I bought the book where
the pieces are challenging because you have
to play the Notes and two chords at the same time
Thats I am doing now. Karen your dream will become
a reality be able to play all songs Easy piano Classic.
