Does this piano program provide ways for me to monitor my progress and keep my learning on track?

Let me tell you something most people do not realize. I teach piano from my local studio with real live students. Now you might think that those students have an advantage of having a teacher who will keep them on track… well, let me tell you that its not uncommon for students to tell me week after week that they didn’t have time to practice, or even that they forgot to practice. What does that tell you? That tells you that with or without a real live teacher, you still need a way to monitor your progress and stay on track at home.

With that said, a well rounded online piano course will understand that students need an extra nudge to stay focused. I call these accountability programs. Accountability programs can be in the form of online testing, online progress reporting, keeping practice journals, and even a program where you can submit your progress and be evaluated by your teacher.

I know, no one likes to be held accountable, but I guarantee you’ll learn more and keep on track if you have something or someone helping you along the way. This is certainly a short-fall of many online piano courses. They give you all of the information but no support structure in place to help you keep your learning on track. Look for courses that have accountability programs so you and your online teacher have a way to track your progress, and keep you practicing regularly.

Just think about when you were in school…do you think you would have done your homework if you didn’t think the teacher would look at it? Same philosophy here. Your continued success is determined by the amount you engage and stay connected to learning. Make this a priority when looking for a top-notch program.
