Happy Christmas to you Lisa.

Sorry I have not been able to enter your competition due to being in bed with the flu! Not Good!

However, my piano playing at the moment is in a state of confusion, I seem to be lost at where to go next with my music. I would like to be abl to play like my old favourate "Charlie Kunz" and to improvise with any tune just like he does. I have all his records!

My best wishes to you for the season, I always like to hear from you, and that lovely 'smile' of yours! (Smile)

Cheers for now, Robert.

Hi Teacher ,

Sorry , for this 2nd Message , because i want to say that am really influenced in Piano & learning piano
and i've said , i can answer another time , and i can increase my chance to be among the winners just
to tell ( you(Teacher) and everybody ) that am n°1 FAN of Playing Piano .
so this is another answers ( they're short than the first message , but you can choose anyone you like , for me it's the same thing , i've wrote that by using my heart and all my feelings ) ^^ ) .

1) What is the main challenge holding you back from playing the piano ?
The main challenge actually is the financial factor. I'm very interested
in the instrument, since it consitutes an important element in the
musical universe. I have the motivation, the passion but I need the
material in order to start the path of music .

2) What are the other obstacles keeping you from playing the piano like you’ve always dreamed?
As I've said, only the financial and material factors are the main obstacles
which are keeping me from playing piano. The truth is that i'm using only
my computer keyboard tp play some songs with some softwares, but in fact,
it makes the task really hard, and it isn't practical at all.

3) What song or type of music have you always wanted to play?
I've always wanted to play various types of music, from the Hip Hop songs,
symphonies, some grunge songs with piano , to even making rap and hip hop
beats with them.

4) What are the three greatest benefits you’ll enjoy from playing the piano?
Actually, playing piano is a great way of developing ourselves. I
think that it will be a great source of evolving.
I believe also, that playing piano will raise my self confidence, as well
as my sense of challenge and creativity. And that will be not only a benefit,
but a huge gift for me.

1) What is the main challenge holding you back from playing the piano?

The main challenge holding me back from playing the piano is that I don’t know that I have the ability to do it. I have never played before. Just recently I went and bought a power adaptor for a keyboard that we had sitting around, and have begun to pound the keys, with ear piercing results! And trying to different things with both hands at the same time is sorta like trying to pat your head while rubbing your belly…it just ain’t happening! Of course, not having skills is not really a challenge when you have an awesome piano teacher. Do you happen to know one? ;)

2) What are the other obstacles keeping you from playing the piano like you’ve always dreamed?

I have wanted to play an instrument 2 other times in my life, and neither time worked out, because of obstacles.

The first time I was in 5th grade and you had to either choose band or choir to be a part of when you attended 6th grade. Well, there was NO WAY I was going to be singing in front of anyone so band it was. Well, I the guy who came to sign us up for band saw that I had very crooked teeth and asked if I was going to get braces anytime soon. Yes, I was going to be getting them in the next year or two. He said it wouldn’t be a good idea to play a wind instrument with braces. I asked him what other instrument I could play. He mentioned the drums. I am pretty sure I was smiling quite big thinking of pounding on drums, really loud! There was one condition for playing the drums though, and I am sure that was because the parents of drum players don’t quite have the same smile that the kids do! To play the drums, you had to have your parent’s permission. Well, I went home that Friday and my parents said I could play so I just needed to let the guy know when he came back the following Monday. As fate would have it, I was sick that Monday… and a year later I am singing solos of “Short People” and “You Light Up My Life” while being video recorded!!

The second time was when I was 20 and I was going to learn how to play Bass Guitar. So I went to the local pawnshop and bought a Bass and an amp. I had a friend at church that was going to teach me and he helped me pick out my guitar. I told him I was left-handed but he said since I didn’t know how to play anyway, a right-handed guitar would be fine. I probably should have told him that I was an advanced Air Guitarist, and I played my Air Guitar left-handed (this was the 80’s when Air Guitars were in)! So my journey began as a musician. My friend and I met about 5 times and I was quickly learning… quickly learning that playing the Bass wasn’t going to be easy! Then the unexpected happened. A girl came into my life… and my Bass Guitar began its new life as a Giant Dust Collector. But hey, I married the girl and 20 years later we have 2 beautiful children together!

Right now, I believe I have cleared all other obstacles that would prevent me from learning how to play the piano. If that were not the case I would not be attempting to learn at this time. I intend to give this my best shot. It’s all about time management at this point of my life and I believe I am in a position where I can fit in learning how to play the piano.

So the way I look at it is that I have 2 strikes. This is my last chance and if I fail here I have struck out, musically anyway. I don’t like striking out!

3) What song or type of music have you always wanted to play?

Well, my musical tastes have changed drastically since my drum/bass days. I am now very much into Southern Gospel music and I still love the old-fashioned Hymns as well!

4) What are the three greatest benefits you’ll enjoy from playing the piano?

4-1) I have always wished I could be part of the music world. I don’t mean being famous and all, but just being able to sing or play. I am in awe of people who can sing and play instruments well. Music is such a cool way to express yourself and since I wasn’t given the voice to sing I always knew my only chance to be a part of the music world would be by playing an instrument. Playing piano would accomplish that.

4-2) The church I attend only has a couple of piano/organ players and I see a need for them to have more. I realize my playing the piano in church, or even just in Sunday School for the kids, is dependent on me learning how to play pretty decent and fairly quick. I think that could happen with proper instruction. If God allows me to learn, I will play for Him!

4-3) Finally, I know how music affects people, and the piano is the instrument that affects me, and I think many others, the most. With the type of music that I like, the piano/keyboard is usually the main instrument, if not the only one. I have always admired the piano players when I attend a Southern Gospel concert and usually can’t stop watching how their hands glide across the keys. I think it is amazing the way they can play! My goal is to learn the piano well enough so I can be a blessing to those who enjoy hearing a piano played, as much as I do. Then not only do I receive the benefit I mentioned in 4-1, but I am able to share that benefit with others.
